With the next District 4 City Council election more than a year and a half away, I have been working on an initiative that I am really passionate about: Ranked Choice, Instant Runoff Voting (RCV). RCV is a great fit for municipal elections for a variety of reasons: it allows more choice of candidates, engenders more positive races, and ensures that winners have the support of a majority of voters. Getting RCV off the ground through a ballot initiative would be a huge win for our City and, with a supportive Council and Mayor on board, we have a great chance of making this important change a reality.
If you would like to read more about our team's Fort Collins RCV effort, learn more about how RCV works and why it's a great model, volunteer, or support, here's the link: Ranked Choice Voting for Fort Collins (rcvforfortcollins.com)
Also, I am lucky to be able to emcee our upcoming RCV for Fort Collins kick-off event this coming Thursday, 7/29, at CopperMuse Distillery. I would be delighted if you would come by The Exchange to see me, learn a little bit about why RCV would improve our FoCo elections (one of which would be fewer instances of District-4-esque vote-splitting), and try out RCV in real-time with a custom liqueur flight.
Unlimited guests can attend, but only the first 50 to purchase tickets will get to participate in the flight and voting. Here's the link to ensure you are one of the lucky 50: Ranked Choice Voting Flight (square.site)
This is a great opportunity to learn about RCV, to support local businesses recovering from COVID, and to hang with some of FoCo’s best and brightest. I hope you can make it!
